Russia and China are jointly developing measures to reduce tension around the situation on the Korean peninsula.
At the same time, the actions of a number of other countries, including the US, undermining stability in the region, said Russian Ambassador Andrei Denisov in China.
"Our concerns are connected with the possible escalation of step down, and here in China and Russia are the same position. There exhaust mechanism of six-party talks (North Korea, South Korea, China, Russia, the US and Japan - RDN editor) to reduce the DPRK's nuclear program in response to the weakening of the factors which it sees as a military threat. But now, due to the fact that the escalation has taken a sufficiently serious nature, return to this scheme is not visible. Under these conditions, Russia believes that it is necessary at least to freeze the situation. At least it does not degrade. We appeal to the Americans and South Koreans with a proposal, if not to stop the annual military exercise, or at least limit their scope. Now it is important to keep the situation in the framework of regulated for China and Russia." - Denisov said in an interview with "Izvestiya" newspaper.
According to the diplomat, the US missile defense system on the Korean Peninsula is a threat that is comparable to the military developments in Pyongyang.
"The nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula is broader than just the nuclear missile launches and North Korea's test. Russia and China unequivocally condemn it, because such actions undermine regional and global stability. But at the same time, we condemn those military preparations which pointedly carried Americans and, to some extent, impose them their allies using the North Korean nuclear test as an excuse. THAAD missile defense system goes far beyond military necessity in terms of real nuclear threat emanating from North Korea, "- says Denisov.
In July, the US and South Korea agreed on the deployment of high-tech THAAD missile defense system, which is designed to intercept ballistic missiles. The Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed in this regard its concern.
