In Russia, tests of a prototype of an active phased antenna array based on radio photonics – ROFAR – have been completed.
The new technology will reduce the size of airborne radars of aircraft and ships, as well as increase the accuracy and range of detection of stealth targets.
“Based on the results of tests of the demonstrator created by the concern, we obtained results that allow us to talk about the prospect of using ROFAR as part of the latest marine, aviation and space technology, including in radar survey complexes,” — the general director of the Vega Concern said at the Army-2020 forum Vyacheslav Mikheev.
He also stressed that the new technology will allow integrating the transceiver into the skin of a ship, aircraft or satellite, as well as increasing the radar’s field of view. It should also be said that ROFAR was created on the basis of the original domestic component base.
Recall that the first reports on the development of a fundamentally new radar station based on radio photonic technologies appeared in 2018.
“On the radar screen, not a target mark will appear, but its image, which is unattainable by classical radar. That is, the operator, instead of the usual luminous point, will see what is actually flying – an airplane, rocket, flock of birds or a meteorite, it is worth repeating, even thousands of kilometers from the radar” , — previously reported RG.
