Russia in 2020 will be among the five largest economies in the world, but it will be difficult to stay there, said presidential adviser Maxim Oreshkin at the Territory of Meaning youth forum.
“If you open the latest forecast of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for this year, you will see that Russia will be the fifth economy in the world this year. From this point of view, of course, the goal has been achieved,” he said.
“And then – achieving the goal of sustainable economic growth above the world average in order to stay in this group,” added Maksim Oreshkin.
Earlier, the media reported that the Ministry of Economic Development has improved the forecast for the recovery of the Russian economy. The department’s analysts envisage a decrease in GDP in 2020 by 3.9 percent. In the previous version of the macro forecast, a decline of five percent was expected for this indicator.
Expectations for a reduction in investment have almost halved, from 12 percent to 6.6 percent. Also, the Ministry of Economic Development improved the forecast for a decrease in real disposable income to three percent, the adjustment from June was 0.8 percentage points.
It was noted that the specialists of the department took into account the faster economic recovery in July in the new forecast. In the first half of the year, according to preliminary estimates from Rosstat, Russian GDP fell by 3.6 percent.
