Mass vaccination against coronavirus of people at risk will begin in November-December, said the Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko.
Then the drug will be delivered to the regions, he added. Post-registration studies will start this week.
“Groups of volunteers are recruited, 40 thousand people. These are placebo-controlled studies that will allow us, including a large population, to track all the nuances and details. We see that the vaccine is effective and safe,” the head of the department said.
In August, the Ministry of Health registered the world’s first vaccine against COVID-19, which was developed by the Gamaleya Research Center for Electrochemistry in cooperation with the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The drug was named Sputnik V.
The head of the RDIF Kirill Dmitriev reported that the fund received applications from more than 20 countries to purchase a billion doses. He noted that Russia has agreed on the production of vaccines in five countries, the existing capacities allow producing 500 million doses per year.
