Almost all Russians (90%) who contracted the coronavirus abroad arrived after a vacation from Turkey, said Anna Popova, head of Rospotrebnadzor.
She called for discussion of possible measures in connection with this situation. Ms Popova also noted that almost 55% of those infected with COVID-19 have symptoms of SARS.
“After the opening of the border with Turkey on August 1, almost 1.5 million people returned. In our general monitoring, out of the total number of detected – more than 10 thousand positive (tests for coronavirus) – 90% are people who returned from the Republic of Turkey. Therefore, obviously, it is necessary to discuss and propose certain measures,” – Anna Popova said at a meeting of the Presidium of the Coordination Council under the Russian government to combat the spread of coronavirus (quoted by TASS).
The head of Rospotrebnadzor noted that only 19% of COVID-19 patients have clinical symptoms of pneumonia. “In general, 55% of all patients have a clinic of acute respiratory viral infections, and 19% – pneumonia. Despite the fact that at the beginning of autumn the number of patients with pneumonia was 25%,” – she said.
Against the background of Mrs. Popova’s statements, an Interfax source said that the number of flights between Russia and Turkey could be reduced. “We are studying the issue on a mutual basis on reducing the intensity of flights. First of all, this may affect charter flights, “the agency’s interlocutor said, noting that in winter the flow of tourists in any case decreases and” the reasons are exclusively economic. “
