Russia in June 2022 will complete the construction of a coastal base for nuclear unmanned underwater vehicles Poseidon (Doomsday weapons), Izvestia reports, referring to the terms of reference for the implementation of the relevant work.
According to this document, the coastal base is intended for the maintenance and storage of the “new strategic deterrent weapon.” At the appropriate facility, in particular, the Poseidons are planned to be “prepared for combat duty and launches.”
The location of the coastal base has not been disclosed.
The newspaper reminds that the first full-time carrier of the Poseidons will be the K-329 Belgorod nuclear submarine of project 09852.
In December, TASS, citing a source in the military-industrial complex, reported that the transfer of the K-329 Belgorod nuclear submarine to the Russian Navy has been postponed from 2020 to 2021.
In May, RIA Novosti, citing a source in the military-industrial complex, reported that Poseidon would be launched for the first time in the fall of 2020.
