Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in Epiphany bathing in the Moscow region. Photos and videos of the Russian leader bathing were published by the Kremlin press service on Tuesday, January 19.
The first photo shows the president walking down the steps to the font in felt boots and a beige sheepskin coat. The published video shows how Putin descends into the font. The President is baptized and dipped in water three times.
“This folk tradition marks one of the main Christian holidays – the Baptism of the Lord,” the Kremlin press service reminded.
Earlier on Tuesday, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that the Russian leader has traditionally taken part in Epiphany bathing.
On January 19, more than 2 thousand people took part in Epiphany bathing on the territory of the main church of the Russian Armed Forces. Among them were servicemen of the Guards Tank Army of the Western Military District, residents and guests of Moscow and the region. Despite the frost, there were many who wanted to take a bath in the icy water.
On Monday, Orthodox believers celebrated Epiphany Eve. They were preparing to meet one of the main Christian holidays – Epiphany (Epiphany), which is celebrated on January 19.
