The FSB detained a radical Islamist, who was preparing a terrorist attack in Bashkiria.
“A Russian citizen born in 1995, who was preparing an armed attack on law enforcement officers, was detained,” the service said in a press release.
He admitted that he was going to arrange “an explosion of people.” A sawed-off shotgun with cartridges and components of a homemade bomb were removed from the cache. The video, made by the operatives after the arrest, showed the components of explosives and an object that “outwardly resembles an electric detonator.”
As follows from the correspondence in his gadgets, he received the necessary instructions from the emissaries of the terrorist organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham *, who are located outside Russia.
It is not specified when the detention took place, but judging by the fact that the “procedural decision” (apparently, on the initiation of a criminal case and a measure of restraint) has not yet been adopted, this happened in recent days. In the interests of the investigation, the identity of the detainee was not disclosed.
Hayat Tahrir al-Sham * is one of the main radical Islamist groups involved in the civil war in Syria. It was established in 2017 on the basis of Jabhat Fath ash-Sham (Jabhat al-Nusra *).
* Terrorist organizations banned in Russia
