Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Center, has revealed the shelf life of the Sputnik V vaccine in an ordinary refrigerator. TASS reports his words.
As the specialist explained, the drug can be stored at two to eight degrees for two months, which corresponds to the temperature regime of an ordinary household refrigerator.
“The difficulty is that almost one month out of these two is spent on quality control of the vaccine, so there is actually one month left to deliver the vaccine and inject it into a person. This is not enough,” he said.
Gunzburg expressed the hope that in the future the shelf life at high temperatures could be increased to six months. This will simplify the logistics of drug supply and reduce costs, the director of the center added.
Sputnik V is the first registered Russian vaccine against coronavirus, it was created on the basis of an adenovirus, in which the coronavirus gene is embedded. When it enters the cells, it forms proteins in them – they cause immunity and promote the development of antibodies.
