Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the chief editors of the Russian media that he offered his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to accept experts from the Russian Federation to study samples after the alleged poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Mr Macron refused, Vladimir Putin said.
According to the Russian president, he assured the French leader that if “anything” was discovered, a criminal case would be opened. Also, Mr. Putin offered to host foreign experts and examine samples in Russia. Mr. Macron also refused this, RIA Novosti reports the words of the meeting participant.
Recall that in August, Alexei Navalny fell ill during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow. In serious condition, he was taken to the nearest hospital, then sent to Germany for treatment. Doctors at the Berlin clinic “Charite” announced the poisoning of the oppositionist. After undergoing treatment, on January 17, Mr. Navalny returned to Moscow, where he was detained right at the airport. Two weeks later, the court sent him to prison for two years and eight months, replacing his suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case with a real one. Protests by supporters of the politician began in the country. Mr. Macron called the actual deadline for Navalny a terrible mistake.
