State Duma deputy and ex-head of Rospotrebnadzor Gennady Onishchenko told why the Russian vaccine against coronavirus was created so quickly.
It is reported by “Evening Moscow”.
He noted that Russian scientists had already developed a drug when the spread of the Middle East MERS coronavirus was recorded several years ago.
“And if a new type of virus appears, we will also adapt our drug for it so that it provides immunity against another disease,” Onishchenko added.
According to him, new mutations of the coronavirus do not affect its genetic code, which preserves the effectiveness of the vaccine against all existing strains.
Earlier, WHO allowed the appearance of mutations in the coronavirus, requiring adaptation of vaccines.
The Russian Federation was the first country in the world to register a vaccine against COVID-19. The drug was developed by NITsEM named after Gamaleya in cooperation with the Russian Direct Investment Fund. It was named Sputnik V. On October 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the registration of the second vaccine against COVID-19, which was named “EpiVacCorona”. It was developed by the Novosibirsk center “Vector”.
