Due to economic inexpediency, BMW abandoned the production of five models in Kaliningrad.
As a result, Avtotor this year will produce only three BMW models, and the total volume will be about 12 thousand cars. The chairman of the board of directors of Avtotor Holding LLC Valery Gorbunov told Finmarket about this.
Auto Review magazine reports that Russia will stop assembling BMW X1, X3 and X4 crossovers, as well as 5-Series and 7-Series sedans. Already in April, only BMW X5, X6 and X7 will start rolling off the assembly line of the Avtotor plant. Moreover, in the future, the Bavarian brand may completely abandon Russian production – all cars sold in our country will be supplied from abroad.
Earlier it was reported that BMW plans to make a decision on its own plant in Russia this year. According to the data of the BMW representative office in Russia, the Government of the Russian Federation has put forward a requirement for the localization of production with a significant use of Russian components.
At the end of 2020, Russian BMW dealers sold 42,721 vehicles, which is 3% more than in the same period last year. As a result, the Bavarian brand became the leader of the premium segment in the Russian automotive market.
In addition to BMW cars, cars of famous brands are produced in Russia, including Mercedes, Renault, Toyota, Volkswagen, Nissan, Hyundai, Peugeot, Citroen, Mitsubishi, Opel and others.
