Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian leader, commented on the possibility of disconnecting Russia from SWIFT.
“We cannot rule out any of the potential threats, you see that the sanctions aspirations of our opponents, especially the United States, continue, continue on the rise,” Peskov said.
He noted that “these actions are unreasonable and unpredictable.”
“Therefore, of course, this situation obliges us to be on the alert,” the spokesman added. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the need to reduce sanctions risks by switching to settlements in national or alternative currencies to the dollar.
In August 2020, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that the United States was considering the idea of disconnecting Russia from the SWIFT bank payment system.
