World champion Anna Shcherbakova said she was missing the Russian anthem and flag during the awards ceremony at the 2021 World Cup in Stockholm.
Due to the sanctions of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Russian athletes act under the name FSFR (Figure Skating Federation of Russia) and the flag of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR). An excerpt from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 is played as a musical accompaniment to the awards ceremony for the skaters.
“Yes, it’s unusual without a hymn, but that is what it is. I didn’t think about it before the award ceremony. But still, yes, standing on the pedestal, there was not enough anthem and flag. We looked at the flag, which we could not raise, everything did not go according to plan,” the official website of the Russian Figure Skating Federation quotes Shcherbakova.
Earlier it was reported that the organizers of the World Figure Skating Championships in Stockholm made a reservation during the presentation of Shcherbakova before an official interview after winning the singles competition.
“Anna Shcherbakova from Russia … From FSR!” – the representative of the organizers of the tournament made a reservation.
Shcherbakova became the world champion, gaining 233.17 points on the sum of two programs. The second place was taken by her compatriot Elizaveta Tuktamysheva (220.46). The third was another representative of Russia, Alexandra Trusova (217.20). Thus, the entire podium of the world championship was taken by representatives of Russia.
