The United States and Russia held talks on the situation in southeastern Ukraine. This was announced on Tuesday, April 6, by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov.
“We have had contacts with the US administration on the situation in Donbass. We have exhaustively explained to the American side what is happening,” TASS quotes him.
The foreign ministry spokesman noted that Moscow pointed out to Washington the consequences of Kiev’s provocative policy in eastern Ukraine.
“There is an increasingly provocative and defiant line [in eastern Ukraine] from Kiev and its western patrons, led by the United States. Washington should be concerned about the consequences of this coordinated policy,” Ryabkov added.
On the eve of Washington’s readiness for a dialogue with Moscow on the situation in eastern Ukraine, a representative of the US State Department announced.
Also on Monday, it was reported that the United States demanded an explanation from Russia in connection with reports of “provocations” by the Russian Federation on the border with Ukraine. In particular, the Pentagon expressed concern over reports of the movements of Russian military personnel.
Earlier, on April 4, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, following a telephone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, said that the foreign ministers of the EU countries would discuss Russia’s “military activity” around Ukraine at the next meeting.
On March 29, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Ruslan Khomchak said that Russia was allegedly building up troops near the Ukrainian borders. According to him, this poses a threat to the military security of the country.
In turn, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said that Russia has the right to move troops on its territory at its discretion, this does not pose a threat to other states and should not bother anyone.
The Kremlin spokesman also stressed that Russia did not and will not take part in the armed conflict on the territory of Ukraine.
As Sergei Ryabkov commented on the US statements about the destabilizing role of the Russian Federation in the conflict in Ukraine, the US should “be concerned” not with what Russia is “doing”, but with “Kiev’s unacceptable behavior,” which does not comply with the Minsk agreements and completely denies these agreements.
