Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov assured that the safety and fate of Russians, including in the Donbass, are the undisputed priority of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“The safety of Russian citizens and their destinies are definitely the absolute priority of the Russian state and President Putin personally,” said Peskov, answering the question of what actions the Russian Federation will take to protect its citizens in the event of an escalation of the situation in Donbass.
According to the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Rostov Region, Oleg Agarkov, as of February 18, 639 thousand residents of Donbass became citizens of the Russian Federation under a simplified procedure.
Peskov explained that it is inappropriate to talk about what actions will be taken in this or that case. He noted that the situation is very tense and any statements “which can then be used to create a wrong picture, they can only contribute to increasing this tension, I would not like to do that.”
