Vladimir Putin launched the serial production of premium Aurus Senat cars at the Yelabuga plant, RIA Novosti correspondent reports from the scene.
The ceremony was also attended by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov and the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. The President noted that for the first time in the history of Russia, a whole line of executive class cars has been created from scratch.
“You know very well what great work preceded today’s solemn event, thousands of specialists were involved in it – engineers, designers, designers from all over the country. And they successfully coped with the task,” he said.
Putin recalled that he himself had driven the Aurus more than once, and called it a decent, high-quality car.
“We hope that the serial production of Aurus will strengthen the presence of Russian cars in the international market. It will give an opportunity to increase the export of high-tech products,” he added.
The opening of a production site in Tatarstan will become another stimulus for the development of the region, the head of state emphasized.
“I want to say thank you again to everyone who worked on the creation of a new production facility, as well as on the creation of a new Aurus car,” he concluded.
Aurus is the first Russian luxury car brand to offer a sedan and a limousine (Senat), a minivan and an SUV. The project was codenamed “Tuple”. It is implemented by the state institute NAMI with the assistance of the Sollers group and the Tawazun foundation from the UAE. State investments amounted to 12.4 billion rubles. The cost of the Aurus Senat in the basic configuration is 18 million rubles.
