Commenting on the popular catchphrase “We can repeat,” the Russian President also remembered another famous expression, “Whoever comes to us with a sword will die by the sword!”
“We are ready to repulse any aggressor who dares to repeat the Hitler attack on the USSR,” — said V. Putin.
“The USSR was brutally attacked by Nazi Germany. In those years, we lost 27 mln people. You will not find a country that would suffer such a loss. And if someone dares to do something like this, we will repeat,” — explained Mr. President.
He stressed that Russia has never sought and is now not striving for such a development of events.
Continuing the discussion about inscriptions on cars associated with VE Day, Mr. Putin praised another popular catchphrase, “Thank you, grandfather, for the Victory.”
Iconic inscription
The expression “We can repeat” gained fame after one of the Soviet soldiers, in May 1945, left an inscription on the Reichstag column. This inscription, most likely made in chalk, was repeatedly captured in the photo and newsreel. The author of expression is unknown, but it is assumed that he was from Pskov.
