Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toganyan stated that the republic’s army will use Iskander missile systems in the battles for Nagorno-Karabakh if Turkey uses F-16 fighters.
He stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“The military leadership has repeatedly stated that if the sword of Damocles in the form of Turkish F-16s hangs over the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, all measures will be taken, including the Iskander,” the ambassador said.
He noted that while other air defense systems are sufficient to combat enemy drones.
Armenia received Iskander operational-tactical complexes from Moscow in 2016.
On September 27, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced that it was launching a “counter-offensive operation” in response to the actions of the Armenian Armed Forces, which “shelled settlements on the line of contact in Karabakh.”
In the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, it was reported that settlements, including the capital, Stepanakert, were subjected to artillery fire.
As a result of the hostilities, there are civilian and military casualties on both sides. Martial law and mobilization have been declared in Karabakh and Armenia. Partial mobilization has been announced in Azerbaijan, martial law has been introduced in some cities.
