Following a strong mobilization of citizens and the cancellation of the authorization for the establishment of this Amazon storage site for environmental reasons, the developer of the project announced that it would not appeal the decision of the administrative court.
The preservation of the environment is more important than the potential jobs created by Amazon. This is one of the lessons that can be drawn from the case of the logistics warehouse that was to be built near the Pont du Gard to meet the needs of the American giant. The company Argan, owner of the land and which was supposed to pilot this project, will not appeal the cancellation of the environmental authorization granted to the giant’s sorting center project in Fournès. This means that the project is definitely abandoned.
The construction of this huge sorting center, where more than 500 trucks per day were to turn near the Pont du Gard, a world heritage site, had been deeply dividing elected officials and inhabitants of this very touristic region for several years.
