The lockout for the unvaccinated, which is in force in Austria until December 21, will be extended again by ten days. However, for this category there will be relaxation for the holidays, said Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein.
According to him, on December 24, 25, 26 and 31, unvaccinated persons without a 2P certificate (vaccinated, overdiseased) can meet in the company of up to ten people. However, the 2P rule for gastronomy, hospitality and commerce remains in effect for all those who cannot provide proof of 2P. These restrictions will remain in effect until and including the New Year, with known exceptions – for example, for shopping for everyday needs or for spending time outdoors. In addition, unvaccinated people, unlike vaccinated and recovered people, cannot celebrate in a restaurant.
On New Year’s Eve, coronavirus-related curfews will be lifted starting at 11 p.m. But restrictions may apply in federal states.
“The lockdown has given some leeway, but at the same time Omicron poses new challenges. We still have to be careful,” commented the Austrian Minister of Health.
