Former US Presidential National Security Adviser John Bolton says Russia must eliminate its military bases abroad – otherwise Nord Stream 2 must be canceled immediately. He wrote this in an article for 19Fortyfive.
“Nord Stream 2 must be cancelled with no prospect of revival until Moscow rolls back its military bases abroad,” he wrote.
In his opinion, NATO needs to increase military budgets in Europe to 2% of GDP.
Earlier it was reported that the new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz unexpectedly took the same position on the pipeline “Nord Stream – 2” as his predecessor Angela Merkel, who supported the project. The New York Times writes about it.
The author of the article reminding that European partners of Germany are afraid that the launch of the pipeline will deprive Ukraine and other countries with gas transportation systems of the payment for the transit. The United States, in turn, believes that Nord Stream 2 is a threat to security in Europe and allows Russia to put pressure on the region. Washington continues to actively oppose the project.
