China believes that the situation around Alexei Navalny is an internal affair of Russia and external interference is unacceptable, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin, commenting on the new anti-Russian sanctions of the US and the EU.

He stressed that Beijing has repeatedly spoken about its position.

“The Navalny case is exclusively an internal affair of Russia, external forces have no right to interfere,” RIA Novosti quotes the diplomat.

On March 2, the European Union imposed new sanctions against Russia due to the situation with Navalny. On the same day, the United States announced new restrictive measures against Moscow.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the new US and EU sanctions an attempt to divert attention from her own problems.
