Armenia introduced martial law in the country and announced a general mobilization in connection with the aggravated conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
This was announced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the message was posted on Facebook.
“By the decision of the government, a military situation and a general military gathering are announced in the Republic of Armenia,” he wrote.
Pashinyan called on all personnel related to the Armenian troops to appear before their territorial military commissions.
The Ministry of Defense of Armenia stated that in recent hours there have been numerous cases of individuals and groups appealing to military commissions – up to 10 thousand people who want to enroll in the army and leave for the contact line between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan, Novosti Armenii reports.
Earlier, martial law was introduced by Nagorno-Karabakh. The head of the unrecognized republic, Arayik Harutyunyan, announced a general mobilization of people over 18 years old. According to the Ministry of Defense of Karabakh, fierce battles are being fought in the region.
The Ombudsman of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Artak Beglaryan reported on the death of a woman and a child as a result of shelling by the armed forces of Azerbaijan.
The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, in turn, accused Yerevan of violating the ceasefire. According to them, on the morning of September 27, several settlements on the border came under fire from large-caliber weapons and mortars from Armenia.
Later, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reported on the casualties and injuries among the civilian population and the Azerbaijani military. “Their blood will not remain unavenged,” he assured, saying that the Azerbaijani army managed to destroy a large amount of military equipment of the Armenian Armed Forces.
Turkey came out in support of Azerbaijan, accusing Armenia of violating the ceasefire. Ankara called on the international community to help end the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Russian Foreign Ministry called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to immediately cease fire and begin negotiations.
