The Fortuna vessel has resumed laying the Nord Stream 2 in Danish waters, the project operator said in a statement.
“The work is proceeding in accordance with the received approvals,” the company added.
Nord Stream 2 envisages the construction of two strings of a gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas a year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany.
The project is actively opposed by the United States, which is promoting its liquefied natural gas to Europe, as well as Ukraine and a number of European countries. In December 2019, Washington imposed sanctions on the gas pipeline, as a result of which the Swiss Allseas was forced to stop laying. At the same time, the Russian side has repeatedly stressed that the construction of the pipeline meets the interests of European consumers and pursues purely economic goals.
