British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed during a telephone conversation Russia, the fight against coronavirus, as well as relations with other countries. The country’s leaders discussed a range of international topics, “including Russia, Iran, Yemen and Libya.”
“They agreed that the activities of the UK, France and other European countries continue to be key in creating a safer world,” the message says.
The leaders also discussed joint efforts in the fight against coronavirus. “The Prime Minister stressed that world leaders will play an important role in the effective deployment of vaccines in order to overcome the pandemic. They agreed that a successful global vaccination program will require joint government efforts, ”the statement said.
Johnson during the conversation drew attention to the fact that Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union opened up “tremendous opportunities for deepening and expanding bilateral relations with France.” He also spoke to Macron about the UK’s priorities for the G7 presidency this year.
Earlier, Emmanuel Macron supported the position of German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the Nord Stream 2 project and stressed the need to strengthen Europe’s energy sovereignty. “Our ambition is to respond to the challenge of ecological transition and strengthen European energy sovereignty,” he said.
