President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the effectiveness of the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus has not been proven and that “Ukrainians are not rabbits” to inoculate them with this drug.
“There is no official information regarding the fact that the Russian-made Sputnik V is guaranteed and gives a 90-91% effect. There is no such confirmation from both WHO and leading experts … I believe that the citizens of Ukraine are people, and for sure, sorry for such a comparison, not rabbits, ”he told reporters at the forum“ Ukraine 30. Coronavirus: Challenges and Answers ” , stressing that the authorities do not have the right to conduct such experiments on humans (quoted by RIA Novosti).
According to Zeleny, who leads his office, the authorities have agreed to supply Ukraine with coronavirus vaccines from foreign companies Pfizer, Sinovak, AstraZeneca and Novava. He noted that the first stage of vaccination in the country will begin this month with doctors and military personnel.
On October 12, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov admitted the possibility of supplying the Russian vaccine against coronavirus to Ukraine on a paid basis. However, Kiev abandoned this idea and decided to use Western drugs. At the same time, Zelensky in an interview with The New York Times noted that he could not explain to the Ukrainians why they would not be able to receive the Russian vaccine in conditions when the supply of Western drugs was delayed. Later, on December 29, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba explained the rejection of Sputnik V by the fact that it was supposedly a “hybrid weapon against Ukraine.”
“Sputnik V”, developed at the Gamalea Center, became the world’s first registered coronavirus vaccine. Since January 18, a mass vaccination of the population with this drug has been carried out in Russia. Now, according to the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the drug has been approved in 19 countries of the world.
