A little later, France and Italy joined Germany. French leader Emmanuel Macron said the country is suspending the use of the vaccine from a British-Swedish company as a precautionary measure, BFMTV reported.
According to la Repubblica, the Italian Medicines Agency has also decided to extend the ban on the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine throughout the country, pending further decisions by the European Medicines Agency.
Also on March 15, the Netherlands suspended the use of AstraZeneca.
Meanwhile, WHO is evaluating the safety of the vaccine, with results due within a week. There is currently no evidence that blood problems in patients in several European countries have been triggered by the AstraZeneca vaccine, World Health Organization spokeswoman Margaret Harris told the agency.
