The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) commented on the refusal of the referee team led by Sergei Karasev to get down on one knee before the start of the second leg of the 1/8 finals of the UEFA Champions League between Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach.
As reported by the RIA Novosti Telegram channel, UEFA considers this gesture voluntary. The organization has no penalties for officials who do not want to kneel in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The meeting took place at the Etihad stadium in Manchester and ended with a score of 2:0 in favor of Manchester City.
Earlier it was reported that Karasev’s referee team did not kneel before the Champions League match.
