The video hosting YouTube has blocked the accounts of the Ukrainian opposition TV channels 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK in the country, whose broadcasting in the state was stopped earlier by the decision of the authorities.
“This channel is not available for viewing in your country,” – such a record appears when you try to access the pages of all three TV channels on YouTube. At the same time, the website continues to broadcast the new First Independent TV channel, which was created by journalists from three TV companies that have come under the sanctions of the Ukrainian authorities.
According to the Ukrainian newspaper “Strana”, the blocking of the broadcast on the channels is associated with the pressure exerted by the Ukrainian authorities on YouTube.
Ukrainian Minister of Culture Alexander Tkachenko said on March 9 that Ukraine twice asked YouTube to block the accounts of “112 Ukraine”, NewsOne and ZIK. Prior to that, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the authorities intend to stop the broadcasting of these TV channels on the YouTube platform.
On February 2, the President of Ukraine put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on sanctions against three opposition TV channels and their owner, Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Opposition Platform – For Life party, Taras Kozak. The head of state said that these resources are financed from Russia and are waging an information war against Ukraine. On the same evening, all three TV channels stopped broadcasting, they were broadcast only on the YouTube platform. After the imposition of sanctions, 100 journalists from closed channels created a new TV channel – First Independent. It began work on February 26, but within an hour it was disconnected from satellite broadcasting and cable networks.
