In the Albanian port of Durres, NATO exercises Defender Europe 2021 kicked off in the presence of Albania’s top leadership and several American generals.
As RIA Novosti reports, on Tuesday, May 4, in addition to the official part, the logistics for unloading military equipment and equipment from NATO ships ashore were worked out.
According to the plan of maneuvers in May-June, about 28 thousand servicemen of several states will take part in them. Albania will become one of the most active participants with more than 1,000 of its military personnel.
It is planned to work out defensive and offensive actions in Eastern Europe and the Baltic States, while, unlike in previous years, this year, special attention will be paid not to Eastern, but to Southeastern Europe.
The maneuvers are planned in Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania with the participation of local military personnel. Air defense exercises will be held in Bulgaria and Romania, Hungary will serve as the rear.
Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Russia is closely monitoring the transfer and deployment of NATO forces in Europe during the Defender Europe exercise.
According to him, these NATO exercises are the largest in the past 30 years.
