Negotiations between Serbian President Aleksandr Vucic and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov took place in Belgrade. The Serbian president said that he asked the Russian side to provide the country with the most favorable gas price in Europe. On the eve, Mr. Vucic said that Serbia is discussing with Russia the maintenance of the gas price at $ 270 per 1,000 cubic meters for the first six months of 2022.
“I asked Minister Lavrov to convey the request to President Putin, I asked (Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri – RDN) Borisov, and I am not ashamed to admit this: we hope that Serbia will have the most favorable gas price in Europe.” , – said Mr. Vucic at a press conference following the talks with Sergei Lavrov (quoted by Interfax).
According to him, Sergei Lavrov and Yuri Borisov promised that they would talk with Vladimir Putin and make sure that Serbia has the “best price” for gas. “And I, knowing Putin, can say that we will have the most favorable price. I have not talked to him, I will talk more, but I know this person, ”added Aleksandr Vucic.
In his opinion, the energy crisis in Europe will last from six months to two years. At the same time, not only gas prices will grow, but also the cost of products and building materials. Aleksandar Vučić also said that he considers it “ridiculous” to assert that Russia is using energy as a tool to put pressure on Europe and Serbia. “We are putting pressure on them, not they are on us. We ask them about it, and not they about something us. Where can I find gas? ”He said.
Gas prices in Europe hit a record $ 1,900 per thousand cubic meters this week. The President of Russia announced his readiness to stabilize the growing prices for energy resources on the world market and supported the idea of Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak to increase gas trade on the stock exchange.
