The Syrian Foreign Ministry called on the UN Security Council to take immediate measures to stop the US “aggression” on Syrian territory. According to SANA, the agency sent a letter to the UN Security Council.
The document says that US military aircraft launched strikes on Syrian positions in Deir ez-Zor province near the border with Iraq on the night of February 26, which is a violation of international law and the UN Charter.
“This aggression became a new episode of a series of repeated attacks by American troops under far-fetched pretexts or shameful excuses that US administration officials boast from their platforms in Washington,” the message says.
As emphasized in the department, such actions lead to an escalation of tension in the region.
On the night of February 26, the US military, at the direction of President Joe Biden, launched airstrikes on targets in Syria that the Pentagon claims were being used by Iran-backed paramilitary groups.
