The United States is ready to consider imposing new sanctions against Russia over the situation in Belarus, Reuters reported, citing a senior US administration official.
According to the source of the agency, the American authorities may consider imposing sanctions in the event of Russian interference in what is happening in Belarus.
On August 9, presidential elections were held in Belarus. After the closure of polling stations in the republic, mass protests against falsification of results began. During the protests, police and internal troops used tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets against demonstrators.
Later, a strike began in the largest industrial enterprises in the country, employees demanded new elections and an end to harsh treatment of protesters at demonstrations. All the headquarters of the opposition candidates announced that they did not recognize the official results.
