The United States is working to build a coalition to prevent the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced this in an interview with Bild.
As Pompeo noted, the United States sees the project as a “risk for Europe”, as it becomes dependent on gas coming from Russia. In addition, according to him, “Nord Stream 2” threatens Ukraine.
“We hope that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will not be completed. We are working to create a coalition to prevent this from happening,” he said.
He expressed the hope that Berlin will come to the same opinion because of what happened to Alexei Navalny, or “because of the real security implications of dependence on Russian gas.”
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwezig, announced the readiness of Nord Stream 2 by 97%.
Maximilian Krach, a member of the European Parliament from Germany, said that Nord Stream 2 will compete with American shale gas and make Germany more independent from US influence.
