17 US citizens who showed courage during the Second World War by participating in the Northern Convoys received the Ushakov medals.
This was reported by the Russian Embassy in Washington on its Facebook page. The Americans were awarded in August this year by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
It is known that the veterans took part in the Northern convoys for the delivery of goods and military equipment to the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War.
The embassy noted that the northern convoys made an important contribution to the achievement of a common Victory over Nazi Germany.
“The assistance rendered by the allies is sacred in Russia. The selflessness of the participants in the Northern convoys serves as a high example of heroism for future generations,” – the diplomatic mission said in a statement.
Earlier, for participation in the same hostilities, Putin awarded a similar medal to British sailors.
