Turkey and the United States discussed the situation with Ankara’s acquisition of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held a telephone conversation on this topic.
“Secretary of State Blinken urged Turkey not to abandon the Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile systems,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.
As RIA Novosti was told in the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the parties “discussed the issue with the S-400, the fight against terrorism, the situation in Syria and the Eastern Mediterranean.”
The department added that the interlocutors agreed to conduct more detailed negotiations on all topics of interest.
Earlier, the United States announced that they would not form a working group with Turkey to resolve the situation with Ankara’s acquisition of Russian S-400 systems.
As Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted, Turkey does not intend to ask the United States for permission to supply the second regiment of the complexes.
