A record number of US residents have declared their negative attitude towards Russia, according to the results of the annual survey of the sociological service Gallup, published on March 1.
So, according to the survey, 77% of Americans have a negative attitude to the Russian Federation, 22% positively, and another 1% of respondents refrained from answering.
These figures are the worst since 1989, the time of the first such flood.
It is noted that the favorable opinion about Russia for the year fell by six points to a new minimum.
Among Republicans and Independents, one in four has a positive attitude towards the country – 25 and 24%, respectively. At the same time, among democrats this figure is only 16%.
In addition, it turned out that 41% of US residents are “generally negative” towards the Russian Federation. Favorable – 22% of Americans, of which 17% are “generally favorable”, another 5% are “very good.”
A 2021 poll showed that Americans are the most supportive in the international arena towards Canada – 92% of positive responses from survey participants. In turn, the least favorable attitude of US citizens towards China (20%), Iran (13%) and North Korea (11%).
The study was conducted from February 3 to February 18 among 1,021 Americans.
On March 2, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko explained that the authorities in the United States need to form an image of an enemy in the person of Russia in order to increase the military budget. That is why there are statements from Washington that “a threat is coming from Russia.”
