Former US President Donald Trump has called on his successor, Joe Biden, to step down due to the rapid takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) after US troops fled the country after nearly 20 years in it.
“It’s time for Joe Biden to step down in disgrace for what he did in Afghanistan,” Trump said in a statement. He called the American withdrawal one of the “greatest defeats in American history.”
The Taliban retook Afghanistan with lightning speed 20 years after militants were overthrown by the US invasion following the September 11, 2001 attacks in America.
Recall that it was under Trump that the White House made a deal with the Taliban in Doha in 2020, according to which the Americans pledged to withdraw all their troops from Afghanistan by May 2021 in exchange for various security guarantees from this group.
